Integral Sound Healing

Sound healing is an ancient healing technique that uses tonal frequencies to bring the body into a state of vibrational balance and harmony.

As our bodies are mostly made up of water (over 60% in fact!), we have the natural ability to feel sound wave vibrations move throughout our whole body, restoring harmony and balance to our own energy systems.

Put simply, sound is a waveform created by the vibration of an object, characterised by its volume, wavelength/frequency (distance & rate) and velocity/speed.  Scientists theorise that everything contained in the universe is in a state of vibration.

Sound as medicine

Sound can not only be sensed through hearing, but also felt throughout the body depending on the instrument and proximity.  In fact, most sounds are beyond human hearing, we can hear between 20-20,000 Hertz, which declines with age, check your own hearing level out here.  The frequency of sound waves is measured in Hertz, and can be divided into three groups:

  • Infrasound: less than 20 Hz (too low to be heard)

  • Intrasound: between 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz (can be heard)

  • Ultrasound: above 20,000 Hz (too high to be heard, unless you are a dolphin which can hear up to 180,000 Hz! )

Sound healing instruments are intentionally created to generate sound waves which create a resonance effect, with frequencies usually below 5,000Hz, that can heal through brainwave entrainment. (When our brain waves detect a healing frequency, it can encourage the brain to shift its overall frequency to be more balanced and healthy.)

Bringing our brain wave states down into lower frequency levels, ideally into Theta(4-8Hz) , in between awake and asleep, effortlessly shifting us into deep relaxation and peace.

Another way that sound frequency can be used to heal is through vibration therapy which involves using instruments that produce vibrations at a specific frequency, such as Tuning Forks. Their vibrations can then be applied directly to the body, which can help to significantly reduce pain, improve circulation, and promote overall healing to our being.

Sound healing instruments can be applied both on-the-body and off-the-body, using a variety of easy-to-play instruments and voice. When instruments, such as tuning forks and singing bowls are played on the body, it is a form of local vibration therapy.

Benefits

• It has been described as a "meditative acoustic sound concert." The sound frequencies then slow down brain waves to a deeply restorative state, which activates the body's system of self-healing.
• A non-invasive solution for muscle tensions, chronic pain, the effects of a stroke and many more physical, emotional and mental health challenges.
• Very effective at triggering the relaxation response, which counters the many symptoms of chronic stress, including heart, endocrine and digestive disorders.
• It helps clear energetic blockages - Some can experience deep healing during sound therapy as the sound vibrations open, clear, and balance their chakras and release stuck energy.

• It can be described as an "energetic deep tissue massage" that leaves you feeling balanced and replenished.
• Improved sleep, reduction of chronic pain and blood pressure, lowered cholesterol, and a decreased risk of heart disease. (Although, for professional help with these ailments, please see a certified medical practitioner.)
• Supports mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being, reducing stress, anxiety, and depression.
• Balances and clears the mind, and leads to a renewed sense of purpose, well-being, calm, and happiness.
